1. The service
RefPack helps writers check cited statements against the reference PDFs they cite and prepare reference packs. The service is the website at refpack.io, the web app at app.refpack.io and the RefPack desktop app, which works on your computer. A project moves through three steps: Prepare, Review and Deliver.
2. Accepting these terms
By creating an account or using RefPack, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. We may update these terms; continuing to use RefPack after an update means you accept it.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information when you create your account.
- Keep your sign-in details and API keys secure, and tell us promptly about any unauthorised use.
- You are responsible for activity under your account.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
4. Acceptable use
Use RefPack lawfully. You must not:
- process documents you don't have the right to use;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except where the law allows it;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the service or its systems;
- use the service to distribute malware or spam;
- resell or redistribute the service without our written consent;
- get around usage limits or access controls.
5. Your content and our software
Your manuscripts, reference PDFs and other files remain yours. We claim no ownership of your content. The RefPack software, website, web app, name and documentation belong to RefPack. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them under these terms.
6. AI suggestions and your decisions
- AI search is optional. Its suggestions are aids for your review, not decisions, and they can be wrong.
- You decide every finding and remain responsible for the accuracy of your work.
- A reference pack records your decisions. It is not a scientific, clinical or regulatory certification, and RefPack does not replace professional medical, legal or editorial review.
- Before you send a document to an AI provider, make sure you are allowed to. When you use your own API key, your provider's terms also apply.
7. Plans and payment
- You can start on a free plan without paying.
- Paid plans are billed through Stripe on a recurring basis.
- You can cancel a paid plan at any time; it stays active until the end of the billing period.
- Refund requests are considered case by case. Email us to ask.
- We give existing subscribers reasonable notice before changing prices.
8. Availability
We work to keep RefPack available but cannot promise uninterrupted service. The desktop app keeps working on your computer when the website is unavailable, but signing in and AI search need an internet connection. We may update or maintain the service, sometimes without notice.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- RefPack is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages.
- We are not responsible for errors in AI suggestions.
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
- We are not liable for loss of data stored on your computer; keep your own backups.
10. Ending your use
- You can close your account at any time from your account settings or by emailing us.
- We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
- When an account closes, we delete its account and project information from our servers, except records the law requires us to keep. Data on your computer stays until you delete it.
- Sections 5, 9 and 11 continue to apply after your account closes.
11. Indemnity
You agree to compensate RefPack for claims, damages or costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the service, or your infringement of someone else's rights.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the applicable law. We will first try to resolve any dispute by good-faith discussion.
