FAQ

Short answers to the questions writers ask most. Each one links to the page with the details.

Does RefPack decide whether a claim is supported?

No. An AI search suggests a passage and a state for each finding, and you decide. The pack records your decisions and your reasons. It is not a scientific or regulatory certification. See Review.

No. You can check and decide every finding yourself and create a final pack. Those findings are marked Decided without AI check. See Set up AI search if you want suggestions.

Which files can RefPack read?

Your manuscript can be a Word (.docx) or PowerPoint (.pptx) file, or a PDF with selectable text. References are always PDFs with selectable text. A scanned PDF needs text recognition before RefPack can read it.

How accurate are the AI suggestions?

RefPack doesn't publish accuracy figures. Each suggestion shows the passage it relies on, so you can read it before you decide, and your reviewer can follow the same passage in the pack.

What does my reviewer receive?

A ZIP file with the annotated manuscript, the annotated source PDFs, an evidence table and a pack index that lists the exceptions. Your reviewer doesn't need a RefPack account to open it. See Deliver.

The selected reference PDFs, the cited statements and the check instructions, and only after you start a search and confirm. With your own API key they go straight to your provider; with RefPack-funded searches they go through RefPack's relay. See Data and privacy.

Where are my projects stored?

In a RefPack folder in your home directory. RefPack does not encrypt them, so turn on FileVault on a Mac or BitLocker on Windows. Uninstalling the desktop app does not delete your projects.

Which computers can I use?

A Mac with Apple silicon or a Windows 11 PC, with Google Chrome.

How do I get help?

Start with Troubleshooting. If that doesn't solve it, write to support@refpack.io and say which step you were on and what you saw. Don't send client documents, API keys or pairing codes.
