Review
In Review you check each statement against the passage in its source and record your decision. An AI search can suggest the passage. The decision is yours.
Findings
A finding is one statement checked against one reference PDF. A statement that cites three references gives three findings.
Review shows the statement from your manuscript beside its source PDF. Switch between Side by side and Table, and use the filters to show one state at a time or only the overrides.
AI suggestions
AI search is optional. Choose Find evidence to search every finding that has a PDF, or Check this statement to search one. Before anything is sent, RefPack shows what will be sent, where it goes, an estimated cost and a maximum, and asks you to confirm. See Set up AI search.
For each finding, the AI suggests a passage and one of five states.

| Supported | The passage supports the statement. |
| Partly supported | The passage supports part of the statement, or a weaker version of it. |
| Not supported | The passage contradicts the statement or doesn't support it. |
| No passage found | No relevant passage was found in the PDF. |
| No PDF | The reference has no PDF to check. |
Each state has its own word, icon and underline style, so you can tell them apart without relying on colour. Every suggestion is labelled "AI suggestion · your decision is separate".
Decide each finding
Choose one decision for each finding.
- Approve: you accept that the passage supports the statement.
- Reject: the source doesn't support the statement. Rejected findings are not highlighted in the pack.
- Source not available: you can't check the statement against its source. The statement stays in the pack, marked as such.
Reject and Source not available ask for a reason. So does approving a finding when the AI suggested anything other than Supported. RefPack records that approval as an override, and lists it in the evidence table and in the checks before you deliver.
You don't need an AI search to decide. Findings you decide without one are marked Decided without AI check.
Choose the passage yourself
If the AI picked the wrong passage, or you didn't run an AI search, select the text in the source PDF. You can also choose Set passage by text and type or paste words from the PDF. Your choice is marked writer-selected.
Internal notes
Each finding has a field for an internal note. Internal notes stay inside RefPack and are left out of the reference pack.
