Your first project

Check a manuscript from start to finish: add the files, decide each finding, and create a reference pack.

Before you start

Install the desktop app and sign in. Have your manuscript as a PDF with selectable text, and the PDFs of the references it cites.

Not sure your PDF has selectable text? Try to select a sentence in any PDF reader. If you can't, run text recognition on it first.

Create the project

  1. Open Projects and choose New project.
  2. Name it after the manuscript, for example the journal and the draft number, and choose Create.

The project opens in Prepare.

Prepare the files

  1. In Files, add the manuscript PDF and the reference PDFs. You can drop a whole folder of PDFs.
  2. Choose Find citations. RefPack finds each cited statement and reads the reference list.
  3. Choose Match PDFs. RefPack links each PDF to its reference when the match is certain. In References, check any reference that still has no PDF.
  4. Read through Citations. Fix any statement that starts or ends in the wrong place, then approve it.
  5. Choose Continue to Review.

Review each finding

Open Review. If you want suggestions, choose Find evidence to start an AI search; RefPack shows what will be sent and where before anything goes. Move between findings with J and K, approve with A and reject with R.

Create the pack

Open Deliver, preview the pack, tick the declaration and choose Create reference pack. The ZIP file is saved on your computer.
